New Life Service Company is a general contractor specializing in restoring homes, personal possessions, and businesses damaged by fire, water, mold, storms, or any other unexpected event.

We have stand-alone departments specializing in Water Mitigation, Mold Remediation, Asbestos Abatement, Window Replacement, Interior and Exterior painting, remodeling and new construction.

Staff Bios

Cleaning and Asbestos Manager: Ray DeSoto
A graduate of Humboldt State University, Ray's vast experience with cleaning and running businesses has served him well as head of New Life Service Company's cleaning and asbestos abatement divisions. He holds multiple certifications in cleaning and fire restoration from IICRC, certifications in Asbestos Abatement from Cal-Inc., and has received a great deal of training in other restoration-related areas. As a father of three young men and dedicated husband and man of faith, Ray brings an attitude of empathy and caring when helping homeowners recover from fire losses, and a strong sense of advocacy. Ray excels in responding rapidly with well qualified and equipped teams to assess, pack out, clean, store, and return a family's possessions after the tragedy of a fire. His vast knowledge of hazardous building materials also allows him to properly abate asbestos in your home and keep you feeling safe. Ray is a hard working man who is ready to help with your cleaning and asbestos needs.

Construction Manager: Norm Arbec
With over 25 years of construction experience in the commercial and residential trades, Norm has been with New Life Service for 12 years and is the driving force behind all our project scheduling and oversight. Norm brings the expertise and integrity to every building project to insure a high standard of building quality, code compliance, and to get the job done on time. Norm’s many hats include certification as an asbestos Supervisor, with additional certifications in Applied Structural Drying and Advanced Fire & Smoke Restoration, both from IICRC.

As a father of 6, Norm has lived and worked in the local community for most of his life. Whether it is working together with local contractors, working on the planning and design for a homeowner, or going to bat before the building dept., Norm knows the right person in the community to bring your project together.

Estimator & Project Manager: John Powell
John brings a varied and diverse set of skills to the New Life Service team.

With a background in construction, facilities management and computers, John brings a detailed and methodical approach to his estimates and the projects he manages. Father of two, John was quick to embrace the Humboldt county lifestyle and enjoys many outdoor activities.

Water Damage Manager: Matthew House

Matthew House is our Water Damage Manager and has worked for NLS for over 10 years. He carries certifications from the IICRC in Water Damage Restoration and Applied Structural Drying, as well as being a certified mold professional and a licensed Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response manager. Matthew was previously employed as an emergency medical technician in Los Angeles. He has applied those skills and developed his management skills for over a decade to handle not only every type of wind, water and fire damage, but also trauma cleanup as well. Matthew brings the ability to run everything from small residential to large commercial jobs. This combination of training and experience is what you need to make sure that your PROJECT runs smoothly and efficiently.

Matthew has lived in Humboldt County most of his life, and is well accustomed to the sometimes inclement weather and damage that can occur living on the North Coast. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his fiancé and two young children, enjoying the outdoors, camping, running and hiking. .

 Project Manager/Field Supervisor: Robert Kagay

Robert and his wife Sandy are long time residents of Eureka.  After enjoying success as a golf professional, Robert changed his focus and embarked on developing a career in the construction trade.

Over the past ten years, Robert became a highly skilled finish carpenter and drywall installer.  One of Robert’s golf skills that serve him well now is the knack for seeing the ‘big picture of a construction project; which is a perfect compliment to his project management and supervisorial responsibilities.

The ease with which Robert works with our customers ensures that he, and the crews he supervises, always provide the highest customer service.  Once you meet Robert, you’ll understand why he was chosen New Life Service “Employee of the Year” on more than one occasion.
